Hello, I’m Mami Tsang, the owner of chi yu wellness centre and complementary therapy practitioner. In this video, Ikumi, one of our practitioners, will demonstrate Thai Yoga massage. Thai Yoga massage is a traditional bodywork developed in Thailand, which is based on Ayurvedic philosophy and healing principles, similar to other traditional Eastern medicines. Thai Yoga massage consists of slow, continuous compressions, rhythmic rocking and assisted yoga postures to encourage the energy flow running in the energy pathways called ‘Sen’. The session is typically taken place on the mattress on the floor level or can be performed on the massage table. The oil or cream for the skin are rarely used during this treatment. The client wears loose, comfortable clothing allowing ease of movement and flexibility. The therapist uses a variety of different
sequences of techniques using the palms of the hands, thumbs, fingers, forearms, elbows, knees and feet. The combination of compressing, rhythmic rocking and deep, sustained pressure techniques, joint mobilisations and assisted yoga-like stretching applied while the client is either lying face up, face down, on their side or in a sitting
position. Together these techniques, the massage helps to unblock stagnation of the energy running through Sen, which is energy pathways, to relieve tensions and stresses from your body and mind. The benefits of Thai Yoga massage also helps to relieve the tensions from the muscles and connective tissues, improve joint mobility, increase flexibility, and help to encourage blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. It also calms the nervous system so promotes the deep sense of relaxation. At the same time it can be rejuvenating and restoring the balance and harmony on a physical, mental and emotional level.
