Hello and welcome to another episode of
Kyäni Wellness TV. My name is Dr. Andreas Boettcher, member of the Scientific
Advisory Board here at Kyäni and in this video, I have a personal story to share
with you and a lesson that I even learned, a mistake that I even made, and
one that I’ve seen thousands of patients make that have come in to see me over
the years and what you can learn from them and what you can do to avoid it.
Stay tuned. Now what mistake could that possibly be
and what can you do to avoid it? Well I’ll get to more that in a moment, but I
need to lay the foundation a little bit in this video. and I really just want to have a conversation with you as if you were coming to my
office for a consultation or if I were sitting in your living room or even if
we were just meeting at a coffee shop. I personally feel that the
lessons that I’m going to share with you in this video really could make a
drastic difference in how you approach your health and well-being–your most
precious asset, one that you obviously cannot live without and that of course
is your health. It begins with how we define health. Health is a balance of
mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Not merely the absence of disease
symptoms and infirmity, yet when I ask audiences around the world that very
simple question, “how do you define health?” one that I challenge you to answer,
they’ll often say, “well yeah, gee, doc. I feel fine. everything’s great. I’m
full of energy and full of focus.” Look, there’s absolutely nothing wrong
with that and also I want to make sure that you don’t walk away with this video
thinking that every single day you need to be worrying about your health. It’s
something that needs your attention and with the right lifestyle habits in place
it’s something that you can go about and join, because I don’t want to teach you
to live in fear. I see so many health and wellness experts that are
unintentionally coming from that place and it leaves you wondering, well
what do I do? What should I eat? How should I live my life? and I
shouldn’t do anything, and and it can almost often paralyze you, making the
situation worse. My perspective and approach is about balance and about
moderation and about making simple choices repeated every single day. Taking
advantage of the compound effect. Success in health and well-being and in business
is really just the sum of small consistent efforts repeated every single
day. Now the problem with defining your health just on how you feel is that the
top killers in the United States most of the time present
themselves with no symptoms. I mean if you look at cardiovascular disease and
heart attack or stroke, what’s often the first symptom? A heart attack or stroke.
In 50% of those cases, they’re fatal. Meaning you don’t get a second chance. When you look at cancer, one out of every three Americans is going to be
diagnosed with cancer. When my mother unfortunate who passed away about two
years ago now at the time of shooting this video, when she was diagnosed with
cancer she was feeling fine, she felt great, and I have even made that same
mistake. See the mistake that I see patients making that have come into my
office over the years is that we tend to take our health for granted until it’s
gone. We don’t realize the sum of those small choices that we make every single
day have a compounding effect. Now that compound effect can work for you and or
it can work against you. I work with athletes, I’ve worked with
patients, I’ve worked with the industrial athlete, I’ve worked with the everyday
mom and dad, I’ve worked with children, and we often just simply go about our
day just taking for granted that our health exists and one of the things that
I can strongly encourage you with is don’t make that mistake. And it’s
unfortunate that so many of us have to be hit with a wake-up call before we
finally decide to take better care of our health. By the time we’re diagnosed
with cancer, it’s been progressing for years. By the time we’re diagnosed
with cardiovascular disease, it’s been progressing for years, and it’s only becoming worse and worse. In fact, adult onset diabetes type 2 I don’t even
call it adult onset anymore, it’s the fastest epidemic growing among children
today, which means that not only is that a major problem, but cardiovascular
disease is a result of that problem– obesity is a result results of that
problem, not to mention all of the other problems
that come with obesity as well. And our children are ones that I personally have
a huge heart for. I mean, after all, I’m a father as well and I’m so proud of my 14
year old son who has now taken his body fat from 19 percent to 11 percent. He’s
lost over 20 pounds, he’s getting ready for freshman
football because I helped him to get that wake-up call early and I can
strongly encourage you or your family to help them to encourage them and to first
be the change that you want to see in others. When my son saw my
own transformation with getting my health back in check he was then
encouraged to do the same. As you know, children don’t listen to what
you say, they listen to what you do. So if you’re struggling with your children,

every single Monday. Just make sure you like the page and you’ll have access to
video health information tips. So what was my wake-up
call? Well I had actually just finished graduating chiropractic school thinking
okay it’s time to open up my practice, change lives, help people live a
healthier state of mind and well-being, and during that time I was also applying
for life insurance and just winning. I obviously had the routine life insurance
exam only to have a wake up call myself where they discovered microscopic
hematuria in my urine, which means you’ve got
invisible blood that’s actually in your urine. I think most of you know that
is not a good thing, in fact the very first thing they started checking me for
was cancer and then after multiple tests and eventually a kidney biopsy it was
discovered that I had an autoimmune condition called IgA nephropathy. Now
many people have complimented me by saying, “you know Andreas, you’re a picture
of health.” I’m grateful for that, but it’s so much more than just looks
or appearance. Let me just caution you on that. Just because what you see on a
magazine cover doesn’t mean that’s a picture of health.
Trust me, there’s a lot of people doing a lot of things that would shock you to
look like that on a magazine cover and that has absolutely nothing to do with
health. So when I had this wake-up call, I was like, wow. What am I gonna
do? And you might be wondering what is IgA nephropathy? IgA is an immunoglobulin that the body produces. My body produces too much of it. It’s a very large
cell that can build up and clog up the tiny filters inside the kidney and over
time lead to high blood pressure, and yes ultimately kidney failure. Big wake up
call. Now my doctors wanted to put me on an ACE inhibitor. Now if you know what an
ACE inhibitor is for, it’s used for high blood pressure. I didn’t have high blood
pressure, didn’t have any other symptoms, no visible symptoms, I felt fine. I was an
athlete, I was working out regularly, yet I had an autoimmune condition. So my
point is is that once I started to have this wake-up call, so many patients do
this, I did it, and we just think that everything is going fine and we don’t
know it until it’s gone, and then we try to run behind a freight train and make a
change. A freight train of momentum meaning that we’ve progressed far into a
pathology or disease state now what do we do? Well I said to the doctor,
thank you, but no thank you, because I didn’t want to take a medication, because what do all medications come with? Well they all come with side effects nor
do they actually cure you of anything and that’s another bad word that I often
hear overused: “I’m cured” I’m gonna talk about that a little bit more in
just a second. The reason why I’m sharing this video with you is that I
don’t want you to make this mistake. Get your labs done, have your vitamin D
levels checked, make sure you have your urine tested, your liver tested, your
blood tested, and make sure everything on the inside is functioning. Be proactive
with your health, invest in your health, get your routine labs done not just from
your medical doctor, because a medical doctor is looking for a disease state.
That’s what they’re trained to do. Go to a naturopath a chiropractic physician
that’s working on helping you to maintain your health and well-being.
It’s not merely the absence of disease symptoms infirmity, it’s a balance of
mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. That is going to be your key to longevity,
because the best medicine is prevention. And of course, let food be thy medicine.
So I started to really take a deep dive into my own lifestyle in my own
choices and I decided to clean up my diet. I realized I actually had some
weight that I needed to lose, that I needed to clean up some things and start
supplementing my diet to give it the nutritional elements that it needed at a
cellular level, not to treat IgA nephropathy. This is something that I
really want to make sure that I help you shift around. I encourage you go
back to Kyäni Wellness TV episode number one where I talk about the healthcare
continuum where I break down how the disease process starts. We don’t treat or
cure anything here at Kyäni, what we’re doing is helping your body get what it
needs at a cellular level so that it can express and maintain optimal health and
well-being. Well make a long story short, getting myself in better shape, losing
the weight that I needed to do, cleaning up my diet, getting good high quality
supplements into my bloodstream at a cellular level, I have been able to this
day, reverse the negative effects.In fact I passed my life insurance exam with
flying colors. I no longer have microscopic hematuria in my blood
and my kidney markers like creatinine clearance and bun all are within normal
limits. So my kidneys are functioning fine now.
The question is, am I cured? No, absolutely not. Do I still have IgA nephropathy? Yes.
This is a really important distinction because what I often see people doing is
when they do improve their health, they just go back to doing what they did that
got them in trouble in the first place. This is something that I have to manage
for the rest of my life. I still could develop kidney failure, I still
could develop high blood pressure as a result of IgA nephropathy, so every
single day I have to make choices just like you, in my opinion, to help improve
the quality of my health and well-being. Look if you just do what your
neighbor has always done your chances of becoming
a statistic are the same. When you look at the top threats to our health,
cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, and even properly prescribed medications,
is way up on the list. It is very important that you start to look at what
you’re doing today because, personally, for me, I don’t want to end up seeing
what my mother went through. I don’t want to see a medicine cabinet full of
prescription bottles. I want that thing to be empty for the remaining part of my
life. I want nothing to do with them and I know the choices that I make now, just
like the choices that you make now, will determine your health potential. So take
an honest look at yourself and an inventory of what you do on a daily
basis, the foods that you choose to eat, where you go out to eat, what you have in
your pantry right now, and ask yourself: “Is this improving the quality of my
health and well-being or is it not?” It really is that
black-and-white. Now I do take one day a week to enjoy whatever I like, but the
rest of the time I make sure that I’m very clean, eating high fruits, lots of
vegetables, lean sources of protein, grass-fed, wild fish, pasture-raised eggs,
organic chicken, being very clean with my diet to the best of my ability. Is it
perfect all the time? No, but for me it’s about laying on that deathbed one day,
because it will happen, I’m not going to live forever, no one is, but for me it’s
about quality of life. Living a very high quality, active physically fit life for
as long as I possibly can, because the last thing that I want to do is lay on a
hospital bed one day with regret, going “I really wish I just eaten better, I really
wish I had just exercise more, I wish I just hadn’t been so lazy and made all
of those excuses that kept me from my health potential. If only I just
could go back to that person and shake that person up and wake them up!”
For me it’s about my grandchildren. One day playing with them,
being active, and get clear on why you want it, and why it’s important to you.
Because we work so hard for our careers, for our
families, and for our lives, and our vacations, but we often sacrifice our
health. And I can tell you right now that’s a sacrifice that will catch up
with you. I’ve seen it in thousands of patients that have been suffering
needlessly because of choices they’ve been making.
So I just want to give you a couple quick things to help you to walk away
from this video with some action steps that you can do right away.
Number one: Clean up your grocery cart, shop around the outside of the grocery
store, buy your fruits, get your vegetables, buy organic, whenever you can
get your lean sources of protein, you know, the grass-fed beef, the
pasture-raised eggs, the organic chicken. Eliminate as much processed food and
chemicals as you can, because that’s really what’s in the aisles.
There’s nothing, but mostly garbage. The only thing I may buy from the aisle
would be like, some sugar-free salsa or maybe some black rice. Something
simple like that, otherwise I pretty much stay out of the aisles. Now of course, on
the outside is also a lot of the bread and the simple carbohydrates and the
alcohol, which I definitely recommend that you limit significantly. Especially
alcohol. I’ll do a whole video on alcohol in the future. So clean up your grocery
cart, pay attention to what you do. Number two: clean out your pantry. Look at your
pantry right now. How much processed food is in there? How much food do you have
that’s in a bag or that’s in a box, or that’s in a can? What can you do to start
cleaning up your pantry and start eliminating the foods that are
compromising your health? Look in your freezer. How much ice cream is in there?
How much soda are you drinking? How much sugar are you
consuming on a daily basis? Clean out your pantry, start getting rid
of the junk, because if the junks not around, you’re not going to be tempted.
Number three: Make sure that you start with a simple, easy exercise program. You
may be working out and you may not be. I see a lot of people at the gym,
I’m there quite often, and I see people that are working out hard, but their body
never changes. They look the same. They are never improving their physique or
losing the weight. They’re just simply managing status quo. What that tells
me is that their diet’s completely off. They
are still overeating or just barely surviving and maintaining status
quo. So if you are starting an exercise program, it really can be as easy as walk
out your door for 15 minutes and walk back. You know in a previous episode of
Kyäni Wellness TV, I talked about my healthy Opa and that’s literally what he
did. He just simply started walking, was able to lose 50 pounds, and started only
eating from his garden. It’s a pretty simple equation. It just takes the
discipline of maintaining consistency. That’s going to help you. You’ve got to
be clear on why you want to do it. Lastly, forgive yourself. Wherever
you are today, you’ve got to have the emotional clarity and the focus. Don’t
look in the rear view mirror. There’s a reason why the windshield is bigger. Too
many of us tend to look back and think about all the things that we’ve done and
how we failed before and how nothing has ever worked and we don’t really get a
grip of what lies out in front of us. Forgive yourself. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve
learned from my mistakes, hopefully you can learn from one of the big mistakes
that I made in this video and that I see patients making over and over again and
just start to clear out the clutter in your life, not only in your pantry, but in
your life, and start to schedule your success, which is my fifth point that I
want to make. It will take some time. It will
not be convenient in the beginning, you will be uncomfortable, you may have some
cravings, stay the course and trust the process. I think inevitably we all know
what we do, but far too many of us then just go sit on the couch and wait for
that feeling to go away and if we do that it will for sure catch up with you.
