Hi, my name is Emma, and I am in my third
year of a Bachelor of Food and Nutrition Science here at Deakin. Last year in 2014,
I was selected to go on the U.S. Study Tour. So, the group of 26 students along
with 3 of our own lecturers travelled to the North-East area of the United States.
And we visited, I think, over 26 different sites which were some of the world leaders
in research in health, nutrition, and also food science. Some of the highlights were visiting the
National Institutes of Health, which only a couple of months prior to our arrival
had been working furiously to create an Ebola vaccine. Also, we visited government
departments like the USDA, huge food companies, including Campbell’s and
McCormick. One of my personal favourites was visiting
Hershey’s in the town of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Not really the sort of thing
that you would think you would get to do as part of a food and nutrition degree,
but it’s something that Deakin offers, and something that I will definitely never
forget. ♪ [music] ♪
