In 1992, Integrative Nutrition founder and director, Joshua Rosenthal, began teaching his first course on Macrobiotics in a rented kitchen with some 20 students. From this humble beginning, and with an idea to revolutionize the world by changing the way people eat, INN was born. I think the success of a program like Integrative Nutrition resides in the fact that they introduce very diverse points of view and are not rigidly attached to any one philosophy. It was an extraordinary time in medicine because those people who have provided healthcare in the past, mainly doctors, are not gonna be the people who create health in the future. Those are gonna be heath coaches. The core philosophy of the school was founded on two major principles. Primary food and bio-individuality. Primary food includes everything that fuels us beyond the food on our plate. Relationships, physical activity, career, and spirituality. When these are balanced, your life nourishes you. Making what you eat become secondary. Bio-individuality is the principle that every person has unique dietary and lifestyle needs. One of the things that was important for me was to establish a school where people could develop a career in a year. People can come in, and within a year, go out and earn money, see clients, and make a difference in the world. So many schools teach theory, ivory tower, they understand how the body works. They don’t get training on how to actually talk to an individual and make a difference for themselves and their family. That’s a crucial difference that happens at our school. You want to picture yourself, a year from now, having clients, doing the work you love to do, making a difference in people’s lives, and feeling passionate. Waking up in the morning feeling “I love my work! I love who I am and what I’m doing.” It’s the perfect time to come to our school.
